Extending Your Professional Learning

Okay, I started the list below in order to support some teachers as they seek their NETS-T Certification but I decided the list was so helpful that it might be good to post it here as well. I will keep adding to it as I get new ideas or as new resources come up. Please add a comment if you know of other excellent resources to suggest to teachers seeking to meet their NETS-T Certification. This list is specifically aimed to help:

MOOCs - Coursera
Coursera is an education company that offers free, online courses on a variety of topics. Their courses designed specifically for teachers is growing and you could use it to enhance your content area knowledge as well. Many courses are affiliated with top universities. Timelines vary and so does the commitment on your part but this is a great way to expand your learning and your PLN.
North Tier
These online courses are offered to ACPS teachers for only $50. The run a fall, spring and summer session of classes. Feedback from teachers that have taken these is very postitive.

PBS Teacherline
More pricey than the NorthTier courses, PBS offers some excellent online learning opportunities.

I am fascinated by this alternative learning system. You can volunteer to contribute to the learning or be a learner or both. There are challenges set up as well as badges that can be earned. I haven’t explored it too deeply yet, but it is on the to-do list!
